In her master's thesis, "Arnold Schoenberg and Wassily Kandinsky: An Encounter between Color and Sound," Elvira Schlegelmilch explored parallelisms in the creative impulses of a musician and a painter. As a musician who plays the Zither, accomplished oil painter, and dancer, Elvira seeks to integrate various art forms to create holistic experiences for her audiences. Menuet aus dem Notenbuechlein fuer Anna Magdalena Bach
Have you ever wished that your compositions or transcriptions could look as good as commercial sheet music? Wouldn't it be great if you could have a duet partner that never gets tired as you try to learn a part (even in the middle of the night)? Is it a hassle copying music and sending it in the mail to your colleagues? It is possible to do all of that right on your computer using Finale NotePad 2007. NotePad is a notation program from MakeMusic, Inc. You can download it for free to use on your Mac or Windows computer. With a few easy tweaks you can use NotePad to scribe music.

The description of an instrument which you have never heard is as unsatisfying as the description of a food you have never tasted. To really appreciate the Zither you must hear it. This article, however, describes the history of the Zither in a nutshell. [copyright 2006, George Beichl]

"A time long past through social changes rather than years, has left in our museum eleven remarkable narrow box shaped stringed instruments, so little known, so forgotten or overlooked by musical antiquaries, yet so linked with the technical history of music, as to demand particular attention. Locally known among the Pennsylvania Germans, who made and played them, by no other name than zithers (pronounced by them "zitter") ..." A paper presented by Dr. Henry C. Mercer of Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1923 before the Bucks County Historical Society.
